o2 Store Locator Live

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

As part of O2’s new look web-site ‘Blue Dawn’ we were up all night - switchover was scheduled for 11pm with availability required until 3am in case of a roll-back situation. Fortunately O2 managed to synchronise the up-dates of 100’s of 3rd party websites and everyone managed to go live. Asymmetry manage the Multimap based Store Locator at http://o2.asymmetry.co.uk, which uses a clever bit of technology to pull in the top menu and footer from the O2 servers - this means the O2 content team can make changes to the navigation and menus on their web site and we will pick them up from their server automatically. This also allows us to Host and Manage the store locator.

We also went live last week with a Multimap based Store-Locator for Evolution Chips - an international car performance company, who switched from Google Maps to Multimap Mapping: you can see this implementation here

Get Bike Online Booking

Friday, October 26th, 2007

We’ve been working with the Get Bike team for almost 2 years now and after drastically reducing their Google Adwords spend and increasing their ranking in the main Google results we are making good progress (have a look at CBT London in Google: that’s number one of about 1 million and that’s just one term.)

Internally they now have an intranet based Booking Calendar to book in the thousands of people they help through their Compulsory Basic Motorbike Training each year. As part of our gradual roll out we have just released the Online Booking Element which checks their intranet for booking availability and allows pupils to reserve a space on the web site.

Rather than re-invent the calendar system, we have used Yahoo’s excellent calendar plug-in too - part of the set of user interface tools Yahoo have kindly released to the developer community. We also use Ajax technologies so that the office based system automatically updates itself whenever a new online or office based booking is made. As you can see from the booking system we are going for a gradual release - it’s not fully automated yet, because the pupil must be able to provide their licence to take the course, although we are hoping to move that way soon.

Once a booking is made online and confirmed or in the office then Get Bike’s internal 3rd party accounting system is automatically updated with the pupils details and their payment information.

It looks that we will seriously save admin time, decrease the mistakes in the paper based system and allow people to book out of hours: this truly fits with our vision for Online Business.

Next up it’s time to make the Get Bike site look as nice as it performs.

yahoo site map’s now available

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

As we mentioned earlier Yahoo and MSN have now joined forces with Google to allow you to submit a sitemap file of your web site so that these search engines will crawl your web site correctly and make sure it shows up in their search results. The news is that Yahoo will now let you do this here for their search engine: http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request although like Google you’ll need to register first or have a Yahoo account. These sitemaps really come into their own for dynamic websites which keep changing or ones that have hundreds of pages. Come on MSN you’re lagging behind!

British Society of Master Glass Painters web site live

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

It kind of sneaked through just before Christmas but we’re pleased to annouce the new BSMGP web site, which we feel, acts as a great show case for the Stained Glass windows of the BSMGP. We teamed up with Sarah Trueman at zenego.com to put the design together. It was quite a challenge to get the design signed off from a committee of very visual and artistic people but I think Sarah’s done a great job.

the BSMGP web site

Once again it’s running on the now mature Asymmetry Content Management System complete with user documentation and help - the BSMGP committee admit to being pretty non-technical and we are all very pleased with the quality of the final result. Once again the CMS provides search engine firendly pages, a great portfolio gallery and online purchasing of journals and event tickets using paypal.

Another quick win

Once again Dan Etheridge, the web designer at Soul Survivor, has managed to create a rather cool looking new splash page for their site. As part of our ongoing Support Agreement with them, we built a tiny little application in about an hour which would pull in a random set of flash images on to their page. This means that every time you visit their web site you get to see a different set of graphics… very nice and the kind of thing that’s great to maiintain user interest in your web site. And if Dan wants to have a new set of images to greet new users he simply uploads them to a folder on the server.
Take a look (and refresh your browser).
